CRKT was proud to announce the first in a series of CRKT limited edition knives. The 2002 offering was a very special version of The Wasp, designed by Howard Viele. Only 500 numbered pieces were produced to ensure their exclusivity, collectibility and value.

The Viele Wasp is a reproduction of his custom Wasp, which was originally commissioned by Columbia River Knife & Tool. The Limited Edition is a true international collaboration. Designer Viele makes custom knives in Westwood, New Jersey, USA. The blade steel was made in Japan. The handle titanium was made in the USA. The carbon fiber for scales came from Germany. The components were precision blanked, ground and machined in Taiwan. Finishing and assembly took place in Switzerland.

The result is a remarkable knife which approaches the quality of handmade custom knives. The blade of premium AUS 118 stainless steel is finished in an unusual bi-directional Swiss finish of brushed satin on the grind and high polished satin on the flat. The titanium frame features an exceptional open build, and is finished in a bright brushed satin. A pocket is precision machined in one frame side to house the inset stainless steel locking liner. Polished, flat carbon fiber scales complete the structure.

Details and hardware are also typical of Howard Viele’s high standards and attention to detail. The mirror polished thumb stud has a soft Kraton® insert. The three small holes in the blade are a Viele trademark. The removable stainless steel pocket clip is mirror polished to match. Teflon® bearings are used at the blade pivot, and all fasteners are Torx®. Finally, logos and limited edition legend are laser engraved in the blade. A black enameled steel presentation case, a supple full-grain cowhide leather pouch, suede lined and hand sewn with embossed logos, and certificate of authenticity are also included.
